Remediation

Cleaning old buildings that had been used for painting and sandblasting.

In Memphis, STEP cleaned old buildings that had been used for painting and sandblasting. Residual dust containing lead-based paint was vacuumed and the building interiors were pressure washed to remove all contamination.

Removing petroleum contaminated soil at a Naval Air Station.

STEP successfully removed more than 57,000 tons of petroleum contaminated soil at a Naval Air Station. Following soil removal, the site was backfilled with clean soil, regraded to promote drainage, and seeded with grasses to promote a healthy plant cover.

Although there are many technologies available to treat contaminants, every site is different, and a technology that works well in sandy soil may be ineffective when the same contaminant is present in subsurface clay. The best way to ensure success is by using an experienced contractor who can anticipate problems before they occur, and select a cost-effective remedy.

STEP can help you determine the best way to clean up your site, or implement a pre-selected remedy. We can also perform interim remedial actions until the final investigative work is complete.

In the case of more complex remediation tasks, we have experience preparing feasibility studies and corrective measures studies as well as pilot and bench scale studies.

STEP has experience with a variety of remedial tasks including:

  • asbestos abatement,
  • equipment and building decontamination,
  • beryllium dust removal,
  • waste management,
  • soil removal,
  • air sparging systems,
  • groundwater pump and treat systems,
  • multi-phase vacuum extraction, and
  • enhanced bioremediation using oxygen and hydrogen release compounds.
