Demolition of a 97,000-gallon tank at Fort Campbell.

At Fort Campbell, STEP demolished this 97,000-gallon above ground tank. This photo shows the top third of the tank being removed by crane, so that it could be lowered to the ground and cut into manageable pieces for transportation off site.

STEP has successfully completed a wide range of tank-related projects, ranging from removal and leak repair of small underground storage tanks and aboveground storage tanks, to large-scale removals and complex studies of multi-tank systems. With certified removal contractors on staff, STEP has removed hundreds of tanks, and we are very familiar with tank regulations and compliance requirements.

STEP provides:

  • anti-corrosion treatments and tank cleaning;
  • investigation of suspected or known leaks;
  • temporary closure;
  • inspection of fire protection systems;
  • compliance well installation, sampling, and monitoring;
  • tank and pipeline inspection and repair;
  • liquid/sludge characterization, removal, and disposal;
  • use of remote control devices for sampling inside very large tanks; and
  • permanent tank closure, removal, demolition, and recycling.

These tanks were inspected for leaks and spills.
Aging tanks such as these are a potential source for leaks and spills. These tanks were inspected as part of an initial site assessment.
